Water park: here we come

Summer is in full swing at our house. Last weekend we did something we have never done before: we bought season passes to Schlitternbahn, the new water park in Kansas City. We live pretty close, and the Girl has been begging to to to the water park for months (every time we pass Great Wolf Lodge with their indoor water park) and the Boy has finally decided he likes water.

We decided to take the plunge and buy season passes instead of just a one day pass. I am not a fan of amusement parks, but I let Hubby talk me into spending the money. He even went online to find a coupon to help us with the big purchase. The season passes for our family of four cost us just over $400.

I am on a mission this summer to get the most ‘bang’ for our bucks that we possibly can. Last weekend we were at the park for 8 hours over the two days. Today, we spent 6 hours at the park and we plan to go back tomorrow.

When we purchased our season passes we each got a season pass book with tons of great coupons in it. We have several half price bring a friend passes, that will really come in handy this summer. We already used some of them with Hubby’s friends today.

I’m not a fan of roller coasters and everything, and my Boy isn’t either. We make a pretty good relaxing team. We have tried several of the slides (with much coaxing for him, and Mom putting on a brave face). But they really weren’t too bad. I like the enclosed slides much more than the open ones. I feel like I’m going to fly out of the open ones, and I know I can’t in the enclosed slides.

We even took our niece with us on Sunday. She didn’t like the water at first but I was mean and wouldn’t let her get out. The kids play area was not ideal for her and the Boy. The water was too cold and shallow. They had a lot of things to play on, but with a life jacket on Little Bit wasn’t able to do much. She did find the Torrent River pretty relaxing and ended up taking a nap while we went around a few times. The Torrent River is like a lazy river, but with some pretty big waves. We found out today that there is an increased likelihood of being flipped in your raft with the more people that are participating in the floating.

I will try to keep updating on how many hours we go to the water park so we can calculate our hourly ‘fun’ rate. This definitely keeps us offline, since we can’t have electronics in the water, and gives us a lot of family bonding time.

I plan to go as often as possible to get our hourly rate of ‘fun’ as low as possible.

Wewhen’re at the water park for 8 hours over 2 days. Now, the question is do we get to add the time our nice ges too?she is under 2 do is free to gt in. Or do we lse time since she hates the water & we can’t do much except the lazy river?
